I have worked in the health care field for most of
my adult life. I went to the University of Texas and
after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in
nursing I worked in intensive care and specialty
units in hospitals in Dallas and Boston. The work
was fast, focused and often miraculous.
Eventually I began to explore other , less narrow
approaches with an emphasis on "health". I was
beginning to think more in terms of healing and
less in terms of crises intervention. I was looking
for a specialty that would promote health and
assist folks in their choices in life.
In the early '80's I was introduced to acupuncture
through a course taught at my hospital in Boston.
My affection and affinity for this style of care was
immediate.
I went back to school. I completed my Master of
Acupuncture (MAc) degree and have been licensed
as an acupuncturist since 1986. My continuing
studies led me around the world including
extensive work in Japanese acupuncture with the
teachers of the Toyo Hari Association of Japan.
I have never grown tired of working in “energy
medicine”. The subtle movement of "qi" energy in
the body can be felt and measured when the
trained acupuncturist feels the "pulses" of the
patient. Once the qi is "read" the acupuncturist can
choose ways to intervene and move or correct the
energy flow. Amazing changes result from the
simple application of acupuncture needles. Often
the insertion is so gentle the needles are never felt.
With subtle changes we get awesome results.
I first studied homeopathy because I was told the
remedies were "energetic". I was initially curious
but I became completely convinced when my own
migraine headaches were "cured" by homeopathy.
As I learned more I could envision homeopathy
complementing acupuncture. Sometimes cases
will respond to one system better or more
efficiently than to the other . I have explored several
styles of homeopathy and now practice the
Sensation Style because it is extremely effective.
I'm happy to offer this modality to my clients.
